How will it affect my children? It is the teachers within and across schools who will work more closely together to develop better professional understanding in certain areas of teaching practice and curriculum content knowledge. This professional development and learning will impact your children right through their learning journey within the Otumoetai community.
Why has the Otumoetai COL been established? 12 schools within the Otumoetai suburb are collaborating to raise student achievement across our community of schools. We have developed specific achievement challenges that encompass the wider context of creating a community where our schools, family and whanau, education support agencies, police, health agencies, Child Youth and Family, local Iwi and Ministry of Education are aligned and working together towards our goals.
Why do we need an Otumoetai Community of Learning? The COL has been established to ensure there is a clear educational pathway for children within our community, from ECE through to Year 13. The intention is that by having schools collaborate and work together more closely, then the educational outcomes for our young people can be strengthened. This collaboration happens on many levels from sharing resources to sharing expertise across schools.
Do I need to be involved? Yes! Along with having a continued interest in your child’s educational future, the key to being involved is by having an understanding of what we are aiming to achieve.
